Amanda's Point of View

How were you introduced to Ayurveda?

During my first yoga teacher training with Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centers, Ayurveda was a part of the course. For me, it was love at first lesson. I clearly recall the feeling of immediately finding a deep truth in its concepts and recognizing its value with all my heart and soul.

When are you (or your dog) most likely to go out of balance and how do you restore balance using Ayurveda?

Ashwagandha is always a top choice, for humans and dogs. I Travel Well liquid extract is excellent for supporting pets in transit or change. A drop of Brahmi Oil in sesame or coconut pressed into paws can be very calming. Neem & Aloe Soap is ideal to help keep skin healthy and bugs repelled.

When I remove myself from nature, I become increasingly out of balance. I can get caught up in the busy tasks of life and business ownership, and forget to get outside, breathe the fresh air, and be reminded of the glorious world around us.

When I notice my mind racing and stress rising, I've trained myself to get up and take the dogs out for a walk. Luckily, we live in the forest, so that's extremely easy to do. During the walk, I take a few moments to look, listen, feel, smell, and taste the various aspects of nature. With that, I'm quickly reminded of my connection to the same life force, and the ease through which it lives.

I am that.

You are that.

All of this is that.

And that's all there is.

What does the future of Ayurveda look like to you?

The integration of the Ayurvedic principles, in their essence, woven through all healthcare practices. With more and more presence in conventional medicine, to include veterinary!

What's one Ayurvedic practice anyone can implement to spur change in their life, right here, right now?

Add some ghee to your diet, if you don't already! A small amount can be safe and beneficial for dogs too. It's particularly well suited for vata dogs or dogs with vata imbalances.
