Chyavanprash FAQs
Our chyavanprash is based on traditional formulas and has been adjusted to include herbs that are organic, sustainably sourced, and fairly traded.
- What is the purpose of the raw sugar and the honey?
- What type of sugar is used?
- Do I need to refrigerate my chyavanprash?
- How did Chyavanprash change in 2024?
- What changed in 2025 to improve Chyavanprash?
- When is the honey added to Chyavanprash? Is it cooked?
1. What is the purpose of the raw sugar and the honey?
The raw sugar and honey act as a medium for the herbs, carrying them deeper into the to the parts of the body where they are needed.
2. What type of sugar is used?
Chyavanprash is made with jaggery, which is a whole, unrefined, raw sugar derived from cane juice. We call it “cane sugar” because it is a more familiar name.
3. Do I need to refrigerate my chyavanprash?
No, chyavanprash does not need to be refrigerated, but it is important to keep it out of direct sunlight.
4. How did Chyavanprash change in 2024?
Due to sourcing issues, we removed Kaempferia galanga root (Kaempferia galanga), an obscure ingredient that was at a very low percentage, and we added a small amount of citric acid as a natural preservative to increase shelf life. We also slightly decreased the cooking time.
5. What changed in 2025 to improve Chyavanprash?
To improve the thickness and texture, we increased the cook time and reduced the amount of citric acid. Other than that, this is still the same Chyavanprash recipe!
6. When is the honey added to Chyavanprash? Is it cooked?
Rest assured the honey in our Chyavanprash isn't heated and never has been! In honor of Ayurvedic principles, we still add honey after the formula has cooked and has been removed from heat.

Traditional Ayurvedic herbal jam praised for immune support and energy boost. Customers said it's "delicious" with balanced sweetness. Most love the taste and report staying healthy. Some noted inconsistent texture between batches - occasionally too thick or runny. A few found it overly sweet or messy. Widely used in tea, coffee, or on toast for daily wellness.
- I love Chyavanprash so delicious and I haven't been sick all year
- It has increased my energy 100%!

I love this chyavanprash and have had it for a few years. This particular batch (1426-2) is not the same :( it is more runny in consistency and tastes more of ghee, not like thick consistence and alma flavor I have gotten used to with previous bottles.
It feels like something went wrong with this batch and I def do not feel like having it.
wonderful
I love Chyavanprash so delicious and I haven’t been sick all year
love it
This is a lovely jam. I was unfamiliar with this traditional product until I purchased it from Banyan Botanicals. I add it to coffee daily or on occasion. As others mention, the texture is indeed tricky to navigate -- so make it an opportunity to move slowly, and be patient with this special herbal jam.
I have ordered this 4-5 times, the consistency us usually the same -- it's a little tricky to separate but becomes workable once it warms up in coffee or tea. Just once I experienced a jar that it was extra challenging and seemed to be completely unruly + unwilling to release from the jar and be transported on a knife elsewhere.
Banyan is the best!
Love
Chyavanprash is great, a five star, but the packaging was a mess. Too much Chyavanprash was put in the jar so some of it was oozing out and making a mess. After I got everything cleaned up I warmed up some milk, added some spices and two teaspoon of Chyavanprash and enjoyed.
So glad to have discovered your Chawanprash! I use it daily to help boost energy and immune function.
LOVE IT!
Love this product; hoping for the larger jars soon!
I have no idea how to use this. It claims to be a jam but it is very thick, heavy, and difficult to spread.
I love Chyavanprash! Love the taste and energy it gives me…great product!
very good
Amazing product. Able to lift two big suitcases with bother and walk straight!
Even though my previous review was more of a question about the unusually thick texture of this product, I do love it. It is delicious and has a wonderful taste. I especially like it in tea or hot water. Thank you, Banyan for this wonderful product.
Great product
This product just makes me feel so happy and nourished. The first bottle came and it had exploded and in shipment but Banyon replaced it quickly. The company is wonderful and this product taste delicious.
Frankly, I was disappointed. I ordered this product a number of years ago, and do not recall the consistency being so extremely thick. I remember it being similar to a "jam" consistency. It tastes good, but it sticks to the spoon even when I put it in boiling water. I was really surprised as I consider your company to be "top notch".
At first, I didn’t like it! After second day, I grew to like it very much! An interesting and beneficial product
For me, Chyavanprash has become one of the most effective herbal combinations I take. It is nourishing, balancing, soothing, uplifting.
I love this immune boosting jam. It tastes great and helps me stay healthy. My only dislike is that the consistency has been different. Sometimes it's insanely thick and others it's a thinner, more flexible consistency.
I have tried a lot of different chyavanprash from different brands but my kids usually do not eat them. This one they eat without much complain. So especially in winter, they have gotten used to one tea spoon of this chyavanprash. A bit on the expensive side, but at least can be eaten by the kids, so it is worth it.
Not too sweet and not too spicy, hence easy for kids to take in.
i would prefer more specification on that. If bleached or not bleached or how much it has been processed. I would like to have absolutely non processed sugar like "sugacane" . organic word is not enough. At the same time bottle size is too small for those who are taking daily. Why not one container of 12 can together, so we can save money too.
The chyavanprash is made with jaggery. Jaggery is a whole, unrefined sugar that is derived from cane juice. We call it “cane sugar” on the label and in our catalog because that is a more familiar name than Jaggery.
We will consider a larger size chyavaprash if the demand for the smaller size increases and enough customers request a larger size. We really appreciate your feedback.
That's my name for it. Tastes like fresh gingerbread! Warm spice and thick, molasses-like texture. I have been spreading it on toast but I will try it in hot water like another reviewer suggested. Feeling the warmth of it, goes great with tea. I'm a first time user and in my first week...looking fwd to seeing how I feel after using it a while!
I really love this chyavanprash. I was amazed how I could feel it effect me immediately. Is there a way to get it in a larger container? I am all about reducing waste and glass containers are actually very energy intensive to make/recycle and wasteful. I'd love to get a larger quantity or in a plastic container.
Thank you for your review, and we heard you! We now offer a larger 17.6oz offering in the chyavanprash. We are continually reviewing our packaging to seek alignment with our eco-friendly values. We appreciate you feedback and will pass on to our product development team. Wishing you health!
Excellent product!
I like the product but I do not like the container it comes in. Its too narrow and hard to get to the product when it gets below half of the container. It would be better if it was in a wider container.
Thank you for your review! We now carry a larger 17.6 oz offering with a larger mouth- check it out! Wishing you health!
This is delicious in a deeply satisfying way - I can tell that my body welcomes it. I agree with the person who said that a jar with a wider mouth would be more user friendly. I want to get every last bit!!!
Thank you for your review, Nancy. Check out our larger 17.6oz offering. The mouth of the jar is a bit bigger to ensure getting that very last spoonful of goodness. Wishing you health!
This is the least sweet tasting chyavanprash I have found. The taste is not unpleasant and it is not overly sweet. I like it the best of any that I have tasted.
as described. a great product
I would like to use this product, but an currently nursing my newborn child. Is this OK for me to consume? If not, is there a good rejuvenative to use while nursing? thank you!
It is always suggested to check with your health practitioner first. We found no mention of Chyavanprash being contraindicated while nursing.
