Organic Ashwagandha Seeds

A native of India and a staple in the Ayurvedic herb garden, ashwagandha is well-known for its resiliency and ability to thrive in the heat of summer. These easy-to-grow seeds can be planted as a perennial in Zones 8–12, or as an annual in colder climates.

Start your seeds indoors 4–6 weeks before the last frost, sowing seeds just below the surface of well-drained soil.

When seedlings are ready, plant 1–2 feet apart in full sun. Mix ground limestone into your garden bed to mimic ashwagandha’s natural arid conditions.

Water weekly—deep, infrequent watering encourages strong root growth.

Ashwagandha’s roots are at their peak medicinal value once the lantern like calyx enclosing its berries has matured to a vibrant red. After the fall frost, use a digging fork to loosen the soil and harvest the roots. Wash and cut into small pieces to dry, or use fresh.
