When I first tried Banyan Botanicals' Bitter & Bold, I knew it was perfect for a fall spiced latte. All it took was a spoonful of their Chai Spiced Ghee and one date.
Behold, this luscious herbal drink tonic was born!
Dandelion and milk thistle, two bitter herbs, support the liver, while ghee offers deep nourishment, and cinnamon and cardamom bring warmth. The date rounds it all off with a touch of natural sweetness.
Many tonics in Ayurvedic medicine are milk-based, as milk has similar qualities to rasa, and thereby supports healthy rasa dhatu, the fluids of the body. The milk in this recipe also adds a luscious and creamy factor that makes this healthy latte feel like an indulgent treat.
High-quality cow’s milk is ideal for keeping the bones, nerves, and reproductive organs nourished and juicy. Almond and coconut milks are also considered rasayanas, or rejuvenating substances, and can be used in place of cow's milk in this recipe.
In Ayurveda, nourishing herbal beverages like this one are used to support the deep tissues of the body and to promote a foundation of resilient health. They can be enjoyed throughout the day or in the evening before winding down for bed.
A rejuvenating herbal tonic is a great way to replace what your body has lost, lend comfort and deep nourishment, and promote sound sleep.
Feel free to enjoy this tonic in whatever way, and at whatever time, works best for you. Savor it as your cozy morning latte, as an afternoon pick-me-up when you hit a slump, or as a light, luscious dessert after your evening meal.
