Mind and Body Support

How can Ayurveda support your Yogic lifestyle? Perhaps you are just wandering into the world of Yoga, or perhaps you are deeply entrenched in Yoga. Wherever you are on the journey, Ayurveda has much to offer you.

Ayurveda, translated as the “knowledge of life”, is much more than an “alternative” medicine system. Rooted in the same tradition as Yoga, the Vedic tradition, Ayurveda aims to support a thriving body, mind, and spirit, in order to facilitate your every endeavor.

Yoga is much more than the practice of postures and breathing techniques, though this is a welcome entry point. Yoga is one of the six main philosophies of the Vedic tradition, giving a lens through which one can view and navigate the world, leading to a recognition of our true divine nature, a spiritual truth regardless of any particular religion. In order to attain this truth, Yoga attempts to bring awareness to the mind through particular disciplines (such as honesty, non-violence, purity, etc); to the body through physical postures; and to the spirit through practices such as concentration and meditation; and with the breath often serving as a connection among the three.

In a similar light, Ayurveda is also a lifestyle choice, not just a medicine. In assessing the three doshas (vata, pitta, and kapha), Ayurveda can support a diet and lifestyle that would be most conducive to your Yoga practice. On and off the mat, Ayurveda can help bring clarity to which poses and practices would be most supportive of your body-mind-spirit complex, and in your search for union with your own divinity.

Yoga poses have a vata, pitta, and kapha nature. You can watch videos that explain the characteristics of each type of practice and give example routines.

Could your vata constitution make raw foods un-grounding for your practice? Could a daily self oil massage (abhyanga) help support your flow of poses? Could an herbal supplement like Lung Formula maintain an unobstructed channel for prana (life energy through breath) to flow?

As you continue to explore the natural connections between Ayurveda and Yoga, we hope you will let Banyan Botanicals be of service in providing you with valuable, reliable information and high-quality, organic, fairly traded and sustainably sourced Ayurvedic products.
