About Organic Krishna Tulsi Seeds

Krishna tulsi (Ocimum sanctum) is a deeply cherished herb of India, named after the blue-skinned deity Lord Krishna. It is known for its striking dark purple leaves, robust growth, and wide array of health benefits. This tulsi variety makes a wonderful ornamental plant, or can be harvested for use.

  • Aroma: Floral, sweet, and slightly spicy
  • Taste: Bold, zesty, and fruity, with notes of rosemary

Planting

Krishna Tulsi seeds are light-dependent germinators, meaning they need sunlight to sprout. Plant seeds indoors in the spring, 4–8 weeks before the last frost. Use a greenhouse or a sunny windowsill to provide warmth and light.

Seeds typically germinate in 7–14 days, growing slowly at first then more rapidly as the days grow longer. Transferring plants to larger pots while waiting for outside temperatures to warm can give them a nice head start in the garden.

Plant in full sun in the garden once the danger of frost has passed. Krishna tulsi also lends itself well to container gardening or a flower pot.

Growing & Harvesting

The Krishna tulsi plant can grow up to four feet tall and makes a wonderful and uplifting ornamental. Water regularly.

Leaves are ready to harvest around 6–8 weeks after planting in the garden. Snip the top quarter or third of the plant and harvest all of the flowers to encourage more growth. Harvest every 2–3 weeks or so, until the first frost.

Both leaves and flowers can be used fresh or dried, for cooking, tea, or herbal formulas.
