Growing & Harvesting
Growing & Harvesting
Most of these herbs prefer full sun and well-drained soil. With regular watering, minimal maintenance, and a touch of love, they will offer an abundant and continual harvest of beneficial herbs throughout the growing season.
Growing Tips:
- Echinacea grows slowly and flowers in its second year. Roots can be harvested in 2–3 years.
- Harvest marshmallow roots in the fall of their first season, or wait until the second year for larger roots.
- For peak potency, wait to harvest ashwagandha roots until after the first fall frost.
- Wear gloves and long sleeves when harvesting bhringaraj as the plant can irritate the skin.
- Harvest bitter melons when the gourds are still young, around 8–12 inches long.
- Pick chamomile and calendula flowers often to encourage continued flowering.
